In this summer at Jackpine, I made a tremendous improvement to their internal installation software. This program is responsible for keeping development and production builds up-to-date on their servers by automatically pulling the latest version and preparing various host machines for installation, among other essential functions. The team requested the code be rewritten in Python to ensure better readability and ease of maintenance as the software evolves. I not only completed the full conversion but also reorganized the codebase for clarity and maintainability, all without using any external Python libraries to ensure program security. I comprehensively tested the software and updated its documentation to make diagnostics easier. I improved the program's messaging, notifying the developers of new installs on Slack, in addition to performance improvements, particularly in the program's auditing of file permissions. By the end of the summer, I had delivered a robust, user-friendly system that surpassed expectations and positioned the team for smoother future development.
